Simple Actions To Protect Your Family

Simple life changes can sometimes have complex consequences, particularly when it comes to long-term financial security for our families.

For example, the circumstances that create the need for financial protection-marriage, a new home, increased expenses or the birth of a new baby-can change at any time. A change in any one part of life can put a person’s or family’s lifestyle at risk.

Life insurance is a useful tool for protecting against such a risk. Traditionally, the purpose of the insurance is to provide a degree of financial security. As changes occur in a family’s income, assets and size, the amount of financial protection to keep it secure can change too.

Here are some questions to consider when reviewing your insurance coverage:

  • How long ago did you buy your life insurance?
  • Were your family circumstances different then?
  • Have you had a new baby since buying coverage?

Anti-Cancer Beer On It’s Way?

I was reading some interesting stuff about beer and cancer the other day. It seems that the hops in beer is a great anti-cancer fighter. To dig a little deeper, it is actually a substance in the hops, called Xanthohumol which has been shown to be a very active substance against cancer. Xanthohumol is found in hops which all avid beer enthusiasts know, is the main ingredient in beer.

Even though hops are not new, scientists have found something new inside hops: Xanthohumol, or Xan for short, that is a powerful antioxidant. It comes in small sticky beads, which can be found within the hops. Xanthohumol contains a family of enzymes called cytochromes that can deactivate the cancer process. It also helps the body detoxify carcinogens, stopping tumor growth at an early stage. Preliminary studies show that Xan can kill breast, colon, ovarian and even prostate cancers. Xanthohumol contains more powerful antioxidents than the great Vitamin E itself.

Myth: Eating turkey makes you drowsy.

Fact: Most doctors actually believed this one until they researched it. The thing is, a chemical in turkey, called tryptophan is known to cause drowsiness. But turkey doesn’t contain any more of it than does chicken or beef. This myth is fueled by the fact that turkey is often eaten with a colossal holiday meal, often accompanied by alcohol — both things that will make you sleepy and that this pundit has been driven into turkey-lovers heads for quite some time.

Sleepy turkey…be free!

Check Your Smoke Detector

Check on your smoke detector at least once every six months, or less.

It might not be working.

Although the average life of a smoke detector can be as long as 10-15 years, they can go bad instantly, and you would not even know it.

About 30 percent of smoke detectors fail after ten years, according to safety reports. About 50 percent of them shut down after 15 years.

Even tho it might emit a sound when you test it, that does not necessarily mean it will alert you to smoke or a fire.

It is HIGHLY recommended to replace them every ten years, just to be on the safe side.

Lose 10+ Pounds a Year by Fidgeting

Tapping your fingers or bouncing your leg can burn up to 350 calories per day. Taking a walk in a park, standing, stretching, getting up out of your chair to change the channel, can all melt away 10-20 pounds per year.

Research is showing that obese people fidget less than thinner people. The Mayo Clinic has found that obese people spend approximately two hoursmore each day sitting still than do leaner people.

Dr. James Levine, lead author of the study, says that doctors are just now realizing what it means when patients tell them they have ‘low metabolism’. He says that it means that some people have a biological need to sit longer.

The study measured activity that recorded postures and movements every half second for ten days. Participants lived their normal lives, but they ate their meals at a Rochester hospital.
