Designer Cats - The Ashera and Ashera GD

Okay, it is 5:30 am and I just stumbled to the cpu to check my email, when I came across a news bulletin at Yahoo about the new “designer cats”, the Ashera.

Being a cat lover, and animal lover in general, this news bulletin caught my eye.

After more research, I am understanding that this beautiful cat is a  mix between an African Serval and Asian Leopard cat with a domestic cat. Which, in turns, creates the world’s most expensive hybrid feline, the Ashera.

The Ashera, an exclusive product of Brodie’s firm Lifestyle Pets, resembles a little leopard and can weigh up to 30 pounds. But it’s more suited for lounging than stalking prey. According to the creator, they are very loving and affectionate.

Although an Ashera costs $22,000 (plus $6,000 for the premium placement option which will expedite kitten delivery by about six months) Lifestyle Pets has already sold several cats to customers around the world since it was unveiled in May.

Once an order is placed, the Ashera is hand delivered (the cost of delivery is approximately $1,500 in the U.S.) by a rep who remains on hand for a few days to answer questions and facilitate the transition. Asheras come fully vaccinated with a microchip identifier, a supply of kitty food and cat toys, access to an animal behaviorist and a year of veterinary insurance included.

There’s even a certificate of authenticity that includes an image of each kitten’s DNA “fingerprint.”

Brodie says that his company will keep the supply small, developing less than 50 cats each year to uphold its unique appeal - and high price.

They are also developing another version called the “Ashera GD”, which is highly hypoallergenic, and will be released in 2008.

Am I going to run out and order one? Well, a simple answer to that is “NO!”

Maybe if I had the money, I may consider it, but to me, I could just buy a new car.

I am more than happy with my 2 cats that I adopted from the SPCA for a mere $35.

However, if you would like to donate the $20k, I would probably buy one ;0)
