Fishers and Hunterman?

Kind of a weird post, but when I was driving home from work today I saw a bunch of hunters and fisherman on the rural route that I take.

I think I have wondered this many times before, but this is the first time I wrote the weird question down.

Why is that people who hunt are called ‘hunters’ instead of hunterman?

Involving the above, why then are people who fish called ‘fisherman’, instead of fishers?

The english language is such a weird and complex thing….

Did You know That Home Improvements…

Can mean added value to your home, a more pleasurable living space and possibly the need to change your homeowners insurance policy?

According to the Insurance Information Institute, around 40 percent of homeowners, who say they have significantly remodeled their homes have not updated their homeowners insurance to reflect the added value.

You should not wait to add additional coverage after the improvements are completed. Talk to your insurance agent about what your renovations will entail before you begin, and they can help determine if your current policy will cover the added value and potential liability you will need from having workers in your home. Also, you will want protection if the remodel is damaged or destroyed before it is completed. Otherwise, you will probably have to pay the loss out of your own pocket.

Did You Know That Air Bags…

Are not a replacement for seat belts? Some vehicles feature an on/off switch for air bags so they can be turned off in the event that a passenger 12 years or under sits in the fron seat.

Surveys show that many times the air bag switch is incorrectly left on for these passengers, which can result in injury. As a precaution, it is best to always check the switch before pulling away. Better yet, have younger passengers always ride in the backseat of the vehicle, which is safer.

Frontal air bags have saved more than 13,000 lives between 1987-2003. Today, front air bags are standard equipment on vehicles and air side air bags (SABs) are quickly becoming standard as well. SABs are inflateable devices that are designed to help protect your head and/or chest in the event of a serious crash involving the side of your vehicle. Although they are not regulated or mandated, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that if all vehicles on U.S. roads were equipped with at least head protection SAB’s, around 1000 lives would be saved per year during side impact crashes.

Classic Advice From Mom

To go with the upcoming Mother’s Day holiday. Here are some classic one-liners that most of you probably heard from good ol’ mom at least once:

  • Always change your underwear, you never know when you will have an accident.
  • Don’t make that face or it will stay like that.
  • Be careful, or you will put your eye out.
  • What if everyone jumped off a cliff? Would you do it too?
  • You have enough dirt behind your ears to grow potatos.
  • Close the door! Where you born in a barn?
  • If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
  • Don’t put that in your mouth, you don’t know where it’s been.

Mother’s Day is different from all other holidays because it is the one day of the year when we stop to acknowledge and thank our mother for everything she has done for us. Here are a few ways to show mom how much you care:

  • Visit your mother, whether near or far.
  • Call her on the phone.
  • Get out the camera.
  • Take mom out on the town.
  • Get mom out of the kitchen.
  • Give mom a gift that is just for her.
  • Send her a paper card.

You can start just about any tradition to mark Mother’s day. However you decide to express your feelings, do it in a way that fits her style, and Mother’s day will be an unforgettable experience for both of you.

You hear the sirens behind you and you know what is about to happen. It’s too late…you are about to get a speeding ticket.

Actually, there are things you can do to, perhaps, get off with only a warning:

  • Immediately slow down and pull off to the right of the road.
  • Stay in your vehicle unless you are asked to leave it.
  • Roll down your window when asked, and keep your hands visible at all times.
  • If you need to reach into your purse, wallet, glove box etc. for license and information, explain what you are doing.
  • Speak courteously and clear, and don’t let passengers speak unless they are instructed to.

Maybe, just maybe, you won’t get that ticket. Of course, the best way to avoid a ticket is to follow the speed limit in the first place.
